Job Summary:

This position is responsible for basic safety, efficient, and proper operation of all equipment associated with utility plant and distribution system serving the UNMC/Neb Med campus.Operates, and shuts down boilers and their auxiliaries, chillers and their auxiliaries, generators and their auxiliaries, and all other necessary plant equipment from a central control room.Responsible for the operation and monitoring of the 13.8 KV and 5KV electrical distribution system serving the UNMC/Neb Med campus.Performs preventative and routine maintenance as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Experience with building services, maintenance, industrial or related.


Required License/Certification:
  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license
  • Required to obtain a valid City of Omaha 3rd, 2nd, or 1st Grade Stationary Engineer license within two and one half years

Equivalency Statement:

Will consider related post high school education in lieu of required experience.


Required Knowlege, Skills, Abilities:
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, drawings and layouts Demonstrated mechanical and operational aptitude

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Education:Relevant coursework/specialized training
Type of Preferred Education:
  • Technical School, Trade School, Community College, Apprenticeship Program and/or related Education Program.

Type of Preferred Experience:
  • Operation and maintenance of high pressure boilers and related equipment.
  • Fundamental knowledge of industrial plant chilled water, steam, and electrical systems
  • Two years experience working with industrial equipment in either operations or maintenance.

Preferred License/Certification:
  • A valid City of Omaha 3rd, 2nd, or 1st Grade Stationary Engineer license

Preferred Knowlege, Skills, Abilities:
  • May be required to wear a respirator.
