The Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Children’s Nebraska is seeking a board eligible or certified Pediatric Cardiologist with expertise in echocardiography and fetal echocardiography to join the faculty at the Lincoln Specialty Clinic in Lincoln, NE. This clinic already has one full-time experienced cardiologist and an APP, with transthoracic and fetal echocardiography, ECGs and Holters completed on site. This is a primarily ambulatory practice with the opportunity for local NICU and inpatient consultation.
This is a unique opportunity, with unlimited potential to advance a clinical and academic career. We are seeking a physician who is committed to establishing and maintaining longitudinal care for patients in the Lincoln community, but also would have the opportunity to rotate at the Children’s Nebraska main campus in Omaha to further engage their skills and interests, such as inpatient cardiology, and the echo and exercise stress lab.
The dedicated Lincoln team fosters a sense of family – not just amongst staff, but with patient families, the local pediatricians, and clinicians as well. This opportunity provides a collaborative culture where physicians can excel in their medical practice while maintaining a rewarding and balanced lifestyle.
While based in Lincoln and having primary responsibility for these patients, Lincoln cardiologists are members of the 20+ faculty of Children’s Nebraska, including 15 noninvasive imaging cardiologists. The Children’s echocardiography lab has celebrated over 20 years of IAC credentialed status and interprets 13,000 echocardiograms and 450 fetal studies per year, of which approximately 1000 are Lincoln based. The practice has ready access to congenital cardiac CT and MRI, with over 500 studies performed annually. Children’s Nebraska boasts an independent advanced 3D visualization lab, 3D printing and virtual reality that is completely integrated into the health system. Lincoln is a busy additional hub for pediatric cardiology in Nebraska, with 25% of the total outpatient volume. Lincoln has an extensive referral network covering central and western Nebraska and northern Kansas. There are multiple additional rotating clinics in central and western Nebraska, serviced via outreach, and there is an opportunity for the Lincoln based team to participate in these clinics.
The program provides the full gamut of congenital cardiology services. We currently have 22 faculty (and growing) including subspecialists in interventional catheterization, axial imaging, electrophysiology, heart failure and transplant, pulmonary hypertension, exercise physiology, and adult congenital heart disease. We have 3 congenital cardiothoracic surgeons, with dedicated congenital cardiac anesthesia, cardiac intensivists who provide 24/7 care in our newly built, 500-million-dollar expansion to the free-standing Children’s Hospital. This houses our door-to-door variable acuity cardiac care unit, state of the art MRI, CT and cardiac catheterization. Our adult congenital service is separate from the pediatric service and is fully staffed 24/7 with specialized ACHD physicians at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. We have a categorical cardiology fellowship with a 100% boards success rate, and are highly involved with education of pediatric residents, and medical students.
