Job Title: CT/X-Ray Technologist                                            Status: Non-exempt



DEPARTMENT FUNCTION/JOB OVERVIEW
Performs radiographic exams for patients of all ages using diagnostic imaging equipment.
Applies radiation protection principles and evaluates radiographic images for technical quality. Uses professional judgment when performing procedures and provides patient care essential to radiographic exams. Performs radiology exams and other assigned duties. Work will be performed in an ethical and legal manner following organizational policies, processes, protocols and procedures. Responsible for quality service delivery and internal/external customer relations for Madonna as a whole, including upholding the mission and values for the department and facility.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Demonstrates strong technical competence in performing procedures while serving as a patient advocate.
2. Assist in administering contrast media as needed.
3. Performs procedures by following and verifying referring providersâ?? orders and applying established methods, policies, and procedures.
4. Interacts with patients compassionately, explains procedures clearly, and answers questions as appropriate.
5. Ensures patient medical records are complete, obtains accurate histories, and explains the rationale for procedures.
6. Selects appropriate equipment settings and positions patients to obtain the required views.
7. Monitors patientsâ?? well-being during exams, recognizes discomfort or medical concerns, and takes appropriate action.
8. Produces high-quality images and presents them with relevant patient information for timely radiologist interpretation. Maintains accurate documentation.
9. Follows sterile procedures to prevent cross-contamination.
10. Comply with all state and federal regulations, including HIPAA, as well as company policies, standards, and health and safety rules.
11. Assists with monitoring and maintaining adequate supplies and materials to prevent service interruptions.
12. Maintains a clean, organized, and safe environment; operates equipment and performs duties according to safety standards to ensure compliance and prevent injury.
13. Contributes effectively as a team member by promoting cooperation, collaboration, and flexibility to support quality patient care.
14. Follows instruction from leadership to perform other functions as assigned in order to achieve the goals within the department and/or system.
15. Communicates ideas and technical information clearly, concisely, and appropriately for the audience.

17. Performs work accurately and thoroughly.
18. Sets priorities, remains flexible, and manages multiple tasks simultaneously.
19. Works on-call, shifts, holidays, and weekends as required.
20. Uses department computer systems, EMR, PACS, and other  systems effectively to review and document studies accurately.
21. Must be able to operate copier, telephone, fax machine and have proficient computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
22. Maintains and ensures an organized and safe working environment for the department.  Handles and operates all necessary equipment and performs required duties according to radiation safety and other established safety standards to maintain compliance with regulations and prevent injuries.
23. Wears Dosimetry film badges while taking x-rays.
    
    
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
    
    Routinely exposed to biohazardous materials and ionizing radiation.
    
    Extensive knowledge of the principles of radiography including radiation safety procedures.  Some knowledge of clinical applications and procedures.
    
    Basic skill in operating applicable diagnostic radiographic equipment. Ability to bend, lift/carry up to 50 pounds, apply force and may frequently be required to move about on foot to accomplish tasks. Ability to physically operate portable x-ray and related equipment. Requires sufficient hearing and speaking to communicate by phone or in person. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Ability to react and perform under stress and emergency situations. 
    
    QUALIFICATIONS (Education/training and/or Experience)
    
    Successful completion of a Radiologic Technologist program at an accredited Radiologic Technologist school or equivalent for medical radiographers. Registered with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) and current license as a Radiographer with the State of Nebraska. Venipuncture experience required. Assist with fluoroscopy procedures. Minimum six months CT experience required. Computed Tomography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) preferred.  Maintain the continuing education requirements for certification with ARRT and the State of Nebraska.
