Habitat for Humanity of Omaha is seeking a skilled and motivated Learning and Development Specialist to join our team. The Learning and Development Specialist is responsible for creating, implementing, and evaluating training programs that enhance employee skills, knowledge, and performance. This role focuses on fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the organization, working closely with Human Resources and team leaders across the organization to identify skill gaps, develop relevant training content, and contribute to a culture of continuous learning across the organization. This is an in-office position at Habitat for Humanity of Omaha that reports to the Human Resources Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibilities:
- Training Program Development: Design and develop engaging and effective training materials and programs including onboarding, leadership development, compliance training, and skills-based training.
- Manager Support Services: Provide dedicated support and guidance to managers in implementing coaching and mentoring programs that drive personal and professional development for their teams; focus on empowering managers with the tools and techniques needed to foster continuous growth, enhance employee skill sets, and promote a culture of learning and development.
- Needs Assessment: Collaborate with managers and stakeholders to assess organizational and departmental skill gaps and training needs through surveys, interviews, and performance reviews.
- Facilitation: Deliver or organize the delivery of engaging training sessions, workshops, and seminars. These include both in-person and virtual, ensuring effective learning experiences to encourage knowledge sharing and practical application.
- Evaluation and Feedback: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, gathering feedback to continuously improve content and delivery; support and track learning and training initiatives for all HFHO employees.
- Employee Development Plans: Support employees in their career development by working on personalized learning paths and suggesting resources and opportunities aligned with career growth.
- Learning Management Systems (LMS): Manage and maintain the LMS, ensuring content is current and accessible to all employees, by tracking participation and completion rates. The role will have responsibility for supporting analytics as relevant to learning and training offerings to ensure compliance, accountability, and course effectiveness.
- Collaboration: Work closely with department leaders to align training initiatives with organizational goals and performance metrics.
- Mandatory Compliance Training: Ensure that all mandatory training requirements are met and documented in accordance with company policies and regulations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Education, Business, or a related field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in learning and development, training, or related roles required.
- Certifications in L&D or related fields, such as CPTD, PHR, or similar preferred.
- Knowledge of DEI training and initiatives preferred.
- Required skills:
- Proficiency with LMS and training software platforms.
- Strong knowledge of instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and e-learning best practices.
- Excellent presentation, facilitation, and communication skills; ability to communicate effectively in a team environment.
- Strong project management skills and attention to detail; ability to analyze and interpret data and metrics to assess training effectiveness.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to travel locally as needed (e.g., Habitat locations, career fairs, learning conferences, etc.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
