This position is responsible for identifying project scope alternatives, estimating the cost of these alternatives and making recommendations regarding the optimal facilities required to meet commercial objectives.
Provides system planning analysis and cost estimating; supplies system outage analysis; defines system constraints and determines throughput maximization to optimize the system's performance.
Evaluates project alternatives to enhance business opportunities and increase customer service; develops project scopes and economic feasibility to support operations and marketing strategies.
Researches and identifies new and alternative technologies to promote a safe, reliable and efficient pipeline operation.
Acts as a liaison to gas control, market services, operations and marketing as well as other transportation management units to coordinate outages for compression and pipeline facilities for Northern, provide information and facilitate the resolution of problems.
Develops and maintains pipeline models to support overall throughput activities.
Performs or participates in the accomplishment of various methodology development, throughput strategy meetings, etc.
Researches and participates in the evaluation of Northern transmission system constraints or expansions.
Makes recommendations and participates in the development of alternatives to optimize gas flow through available receipt/delivery points through the use of a transient and/or steady-state model.
Provide technical leadership to staff.
Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.
Provide technical input to assist in maximizing the efficiency of Northern’s pipeline system.
Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
This is a multi-level posting. Candidates may be considered for any of the posted level, depending on their level of experience and depth of expertise.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration or related field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor’s degree.)
Eight or more years of operational/technical experience in a natural gas and measurement operations function.
Knowledge of engineering principles and practices for analysis (pipeline/compression theory).
Ability to prepare clear, concise, timely and complete written reports.
Broad knowledge of company functions (regulatory, financial, marketing, market services, operations, gas control, etc.).
Working knowledge of environmental, DOT and FERC regulations.
Must possess self-motivation and initiative to recognize, analyze and recommend alternative solutions to problems and issues.
Proficiency with PC and various software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, etc.)
Knowledge and proficiency with steady-state, transient and online pipeline simulation software; SCADA, Load Supply Forecasting System, Expert Systems, Visual Basic and Neutral Nets a plus.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
